Maria Sharapova is a professional tennis player and businesswoman. A United States resident since 1994, Sharapova has competed on the WTA tour since 2001. She has been ranked world No. 1 in singles by the WTA on five separate occasions, and one of a handful of players to win a Career Grand Slam. Sharapova became the world No. 1 for the first time on August 22, 2005, at the age of 18.
